With the publication of the Airspace Architecture Study and the Wise Persons Group report there are exciting developments ahead in terms of strategy and direction for air traffic management in Europe. The question for industry is how to move forwards and turn these visions into sustainable reality. At a political level, the direction will also be driven by the priorities of the new Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, whose priorities include the European Green Deal and creating a Europe fit for the digital age. This edition of ON AIR! addresses some of the topics relevant to the challenges ahead, and not just for air traffic management. Digital dashboards are discussed by Bhavin Lachani, 5G and its potential use in aviation by Andrew Burrage, and the organisational/human aspects of implementing change by Adam Parkinson.
A diary date for our European readers - we are holding our annual evening drinks event in Brussels on the 20 November 2019. If you would like to receive an invitation, please contact Helen Moore at [email protected]
Finally, as Egis celebrates 50 years in aviation, we imagine the long-term future of aviation and what relevance air traffic management might have in a major new White Paper, authored by James Hanson. Find out more in the HOT AIR! column.
With best wishes,
