Investing in the Future
As we prepare to join our colleagues from Egis at World ATM Congress in Madrid next week, the topics in this latest issue of ON AIR! seem particularly pertinent. The Madrid exhibition is a major event in the ATM system supplier calendar and an opportunity for everyone engaged in ATM to progress plans and projects, as well as to make new connections.
An ATM system is the single biggest and most critical investment decision that an air navigation service provider will make. So it is appropriate to reflect not only on how to get value for money, but also on how the next set of performance plans (RP3) might set the envelope for expenditure. Will ANSPs be able to afford the kit that they want? How might a new approach to procurement help them in the future? We touch on both these topics in our articles on 'RP3 - a delicate balancing act' and 'ATM system modernisation – Can more targeted funding help?'.
Decision-making around ATM Systems is further complicated by the urgent need to address cyber-security. Given the complexity of connected systems, the length of supply chains that need to be included in the analysis, and the speed of change, our expert Matt Shreeve is arguing that every ANSP should have a Security Management System and an implementation roadmap. He explains more in his piece: 'Cyber-security – roadmap to reality.'
Most of our Directors and Senior Consultants will be in Madrid at some point or other between 7-9 March. We are very much looking forward to catching up with old friends and making some new ones along the way, provided the Virtual Reality game on our stand does not get too competitive!
With best wishes
